My Visits

School, Library, Skype & other Speaking Opportunities

One of the best things about being an author is having the opportunity to engage with students, librarians, teachers, parents, readers and fellow writers.

My main presentation (“Before Page One: Finding Inspirations for Story”)–ideal for large and small groups–is an opportunity to learn how a trip to West Africa, a neighborhood walk, a doodle, an image from the 1800s, the love of sport and many other things can be inspiration for story. The audience will learn the role research and the five senses play in bringing stories to life. While also exploring how the writing process, transforming moments of doubt into action, the treasure trove that is personal experience, and the power of revision work in creating stories.

For younger audiences, I often talk about “Becoming a  Storyteller” and how the things we love, experience, and see when we are young can become the perfect building blocks for making stories.

My workshops on the wonder of revision, turning small ideas into great stories, and utilizing the five senses have students ready to write. Tailoring a program for your specific needs is also an option.

I’d love to work with you on finding the best presentation or workshop  for your program!
